5 Pillars of Islam

Story of Five Pillars of Islam

The Muslim religion of Islam arose in the Arabian Peninsula during the seventh century. This was the time when the prophet Muhammad dedicated himself to preach the teachings of Allah.

Like Christianity or Judaism, Islam is a monotheistic religion that venerates Allah as its only god. The principles and values of Islam are collected in the Quran. It is a sacred book that explains the experiences and knowledge of the Prophet Muhammad.

Muslims worship the Quran, keep it very carefully wrapped in cloths and wash their hands before touching it to read or recite it.

This holy book compiles the five pillars or basic norms that every Islamic must comply with: the profession of faith, prayer, charity, fasting during Ramadan and the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Every Muslim must fulfil the following obligations:

  1. Shahada: Accept the religion of faith. There is no God, only Allah and Muhammad is the envoy of Allah.
  2. Salat: Performing daily prayers to God looking towards Mecca.
  3. Zakat: Doing charities and offer alms.
  4. Swan: Fast during Ramadan.
  5. Hajj: Pilgrimaging Mecca (Saudi Arabia), at least once in the lifetime of every Muslim if you have the means to do so and health.

Let us know about these Five Pillars of Islam in details in the following.

  1. Shahada: One main reason for the spreading of Islam was the simplicity of its message, which is conveyed in the form of Shahada.
There is no God only Allah and Muhammad is the envoy of Allah.
These words must be pronounced by anyone who wants to convert to Islam. Remember that apostasy is severely punished in Islam.
  2. Salat: According to Islamic myth, prayer must be done five times a day. Prayers remember the permanent agreement of submission and obedience to God.
  3. Zakat: One of the obligations for Muslims is to provide some amount of their assets to those most in need. The term Zakat comes out 34 times in the Quran. This is performed on the day of the Ashura in the month of Muharram (the 10th day of the 1st lunar month). It is an act of purification. The things given by Allah are only for the poor, needy, who take care of them, whose hearts must be reunited.
  4. The Ramadan/Fasting: Ramadan is an important period for the Muslims, they must hold fast for a whole month. They should not consume food, neither solids nor liquids, from the sunrise of each day until its sunset, sex is also prohibited.
  5. Hajj: The Hajj, pilgrimage to the Holy Qaba of Mecca, is a must once in the lifetime of each Muslim if they have the means to do so. For every Muslim, Hajj is a mystical unique experience.
